Mission/OutreachFood Pantry--Ottawa Presbyterian joins with other churches in the area to support the Ottawa Food Pantry which operates on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. We staff the Food Pantry during June and December.
Highway Clean-up--a team of church folks clean up State Route 65 south of Ottawa three times during the summer. This has been happening for over a decade. Our "Road Warriors" took to the streets....well, highway....most recently on July 19 and enjoyed the clear skies, the surprising pleasant July temperature, and the conversation while cleaning up accumulated debris. Look for our next outing on September or October. Stan B. has been in charge of this activity. A new leader is needed.
Habitat for Humanity--Ottawa Presbyterian Church is proud to host Putnam County Habitat for Humanity. The local Habitat for Humanity International affiliate has offices located in the Sunday School classroom area of the building. Office hours are officially 8:30 am to noon on Tuesday and Thursday although it is common to find volunteers working there at other times as well. Additionally, many of the board and committee meetings are held here at Ottawa Presbyterian Church as well.
Flood Relief--This was huge project after the August 2007 flood waters arrived. OPC coordinated work teams from other churches for a period of twelve months. Tremendous thanks go to the folks from Grosse Pointe Woods (Michigan) Presbyterian Church, Baldwin Wallace Campus Crusade for Christ (thanks, Emily!), Broad Street Presbyterian Church (Columbus), Maumee Presbyterian Church, Christ Presbyterian Church (Toledo), Adrian (Michigan) Presbyterian Church, Ada Presbyterian Church, Van Wert Presbyterian Church Youth Group, Westminster Presbyterian Church (Akron), Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church (Detroit), three Youngstown area Presbyterian churches, Coshocton Presbyterian Church and the Slifer Presbyterian Church of Farmersville, Ohio, who sent teams.
Flood Finale - We concluded our flood relief work on Nov. 22, 2008, when the Grosse Pointe Woods team made its 5th trip to Ottawa. The day ended with a blessing at the Johnson home. A video of all the work teams was shown that day and also in church on November 23. If you missed it, just click here to see the YouTube version. (Please note: the sound has been removed)
Putnam Acres Care Center--Since 1971 (yes, 1971!!!) women of the church have been visiting this nursing care facility to play bingo with the residents there and to provide special treats. Bingo rules are (loosely) followed so that as many residents as possible can enjoy winning.
Site Availability--we offer our meeting space to organizations such as 4H, Girl Scouts, Putnam Pet Pals, Ottawa-Glandorf Community Band, and Benchmark (men's barbershop singing), and Putnam County Habitat for Humanity.
